No error messages, black screen, and maybe a blinking cursor (or not), I have tried loading the new Sil 3132 drivers (32 and 64 bit versions) up during the install but Vista doesn't appear to "retain" them - for lack of a better description and I got the black screen. Ultimate 64 to 32 Bit
Using it, you can install and run Vista (any 32-bit version, I believe), using a full license, as others have said. In that way, you can test on Vista and It hasn't been all smooth sailing, though, so keeping XP and running Vista on a virtual machine should be idea for you. I'd definitely up the memory, though.

Things should be improving with Vista 64. Now I can't install Norton 360 because they don't support WindowsXP64. Score one for XP x64 (IMHO)! Most 32-bit applications will run just fine on Windows x64. It's primarily hardware drivers, and applications that hook into the OS in some way (like antivirus programs)

I want to uninstall Windows Vista x86-32 without re-formatting/repartioning my primary HDD partition where Vista is currently installed. This way I can proceed to install Vista x86-64 without having to worry about my Movies, Audio and Video data already on the drive getting wiped out! Can it be done?
